The University of Nairobi Press launched a new book titled Beyond Poverty and Vulnerability in Kenya, authored by Mwangi Mathai.
The Chief Guest, Prof. P.L.O. Lumumba, the Director, Kenya School of Law, urged the youth to deconstruct the house of poverty that has been built over the years.
The author, Mwangi Mathai, also urged the youth to see themselves as global citizens in order to achieve success. He encouraged the young people to avoid depending on charity, embrace ICT innovation, and disentangle themselves from wrong political associations, to shun consumption mindset, avoid corruption, embrace devolution and distance themselves from witchcraft.
The Vice-Chancellor, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof. Henry Mutoro, noted that the value of a university press to the community of scholars cannot be underestimated. “In academia, career advancement is based on evidence of publishing activity and what better place to begin than in one’s own university press,” he said.
The launch was held at the Confucius Institute on June, 22, 2016.
