An Introduction to African History breaks new ground in African historiography. It introduces readers to historical knowledge from pre-historic times to post independent Africa.
This book demonstrates that history can be reconstructed from a wide range of sources. The reconstruction has thrown light to the economic, social and political activities of African societies before colonialisation and after; and the rich African civilizations which were inward as well as outward looking. It is now clear that Africans were influenced by Christianity and Islam long before colonialism. Furthermore, Africans interacted with the Europeans and people from Asia in the field of trade for a long period.
